Frequently Asked Questions

We are a team of perfectionists here at Bixie Colour. This level of quality takes time, and that time depends on what service you are having. Generally, our hair colourist appointments that include a cut and blow-dry are approximately three-four hours. You could be with us for two hours, and it could be up to four or five. We can discuss this in your consultation. We promise it’ll be worth it.

Of course! We want to have a chance to get to you know, and you us. We want to talk about your ideas and where you want to take your hair. We want to share our expertise. We want to bring your hair dreams to reality! But it’s important that we trust each other, and that we discuss expectations around what can be achieved and how we’ll approach it, so come and see us for a free 15 minute consultation.

Colour corrections require a little extra consideration. We will discuss your needs and an expert colourist will offer you a realistic assessment. We can discuss what is needed in a free 15 minute colour correction consultation, and we’ll do our best to help.

You will wear a cape throughout your appointment, so your clothing will be covered, and we certainly take every effort to avoid any spills or leaks. However, we recommend you do not wear anything valuable or expensive, as Bixie Colour cannot be responsible for any stains or damage.

All day parking is available on The Kingsway for our Caringbah salon location, with two and four hour spots located in the local surrounding area.

We accept ZIPPAY, Cash, EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard. Unfortunately, we do not accept payment via American Express or Diners Club Card.

We have an automated text/sms confirmation system. In the unlikely event that you do not receive a confirmation text 24-48 hours prior to your appointment, please feel free to contact the salon via phone to confirm on 02 9525 4977.

Please kindly note we have a 10 day notification policy if you would like to adjust something about your hair. We do not offer refunds. A consultation would be required to ensure enough time is booked out for any correction and is free of charge.

When you book an appointment with our hair salon, you will be asked to provide your credit card details for a deposit. In the event that you are unable to make your booking, we kindly ask that you provide the salon with more than 24 hours’ notice. Should you fail to contact the salon to cancel or reschedule your appointment within this notice period, your deposit will be forfeited. Please note, deposit amount will vary depending on service.

  • Deposit for Style Service: $50
  • Deposit for Colour Service: $100
  • Deposit for Combined Style & Colour Service: $100

If you arrive at your appointment as scheduled, your deposit will simply be deducted from your overall service charge. If you are running late, please be advised that we may not be able to perform your complete service. Please appreciate that our salon operates according to strict timing to ensure our scheduled appointments run to time.

A hair toner should last up to six weeks; depending on how frequently you wash your hair. We can recommend take-home products to maintain the freshness of your colour.

The name really tells the story here; a root shadow is a slightly darker root area, with lighter ends. To achieve this look we apply a faintly darker hair toner to the roots than that which we apply to the ends. This gives a soft, graded contrast between the roots, mid-lengths and ends and helps achieve our signature lived-in colour look.

Faux foils are for our clients that we know balayage won’t work on. It is a foil that does not go right to the roots area. By placing it in foil, it allows us to get the lift but still look like balayage.

You can think of highlights and balayage as the difference between Park Avenue and Malibu. Highlights are placed more precisely through the hair, using foils, and generally the hair is highlighted from root to tip. Balayage is painted onto the hair in sections, freehand, usually from the mid-lengths to the ends (or just not all the way to the roots), and then separated by plastic or sometimes cotton wool while it develops. Highlights allow the colour to develop more and are often more intense, whereas balayage blends more into the natural hair.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to have a haircut without a blow dry. We need to see the cut when it’s dry to assess whether or not it needs extra cutting and finessing. Cutting the hair dry is a key part of making it perfect.

We want you to leave 100% satisfied with your hair. Please contact Bixie Colour immediately if you are unhappy with your hair cut. We have a 10 day re-cut policy, which means you need to get in touch with us within 10 days of your hairdressing appointment in order to have your hair re-cut free of charge.

We highly recommend a blow dry with your colour service so that you can see and assess the colour. It is our policy that first time clients have a blow dry with their colour service to ensure you are satisfied with the result.

Yes; cuts of any length are charged at the same rate.
